Our History

We’re proud of our longstanding connection with the Swindon community, going back to 1839.

We’re proud to trace our roots in Swindon back to 1839

We’re proud that our ethos of providing the people and pets of Swindon with a caring and trusted service can be traced throughout our history, even as our name has changed.

Many people still remember the Hewers, a father and son team who were well known throughout Swindon.

From there new partners came on board and the practice changed name from Hewer, Spriggs & Wilson, to Sismey, Cooper & Hibberd and finally to Drove Veterinary Hospital – in homage to the old practice site of The Grange, in Drove Road, Swindon.

New premises

Moving to our purpose-built hospital in 1988 pointed towards an exciting future as providers of a modern small animal veterinary service.

To help us to uphold our commitment to providing trusted care across Swindon’s communities, we’ve established a network of fully-equipped branches throughout our town and the surrounding areas – with the peace of mind of our fully-equipped hospital’s support when needed.

2005 saw another step forward, with a long-awaited extension and refurbishment for our hospital coming alongside a relaunch of our brand, complete with the introduction of the logo we still use today.

The future

Between our hospital and our branches we are proud of the support we offer pet owners throughout our communities – and long may that continue.

We’re committed to constantly investing in our team and facilities to stay at the cutting edge of the industry and to provide the very best care, whether that’s with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment such as our CT scanner, or modern surgical techniques such as laparoscopy, better known as keyhole surgery.

We look forward to a long and happy future caring for Swindon’s pets!
