Travelling with your pet
After Brexit, the old system of pet passports was replaced by Animal Health Certificates (AHCs), which our vets are qualified to issue, should you need to travel with your pets.
We recommend booking your appointment as close to the date of departure as possible, as the AHC is only valid for 10 days once it is issued.
For travel outside of the EU, rules differ by country – ask our team for advice on what you need to do to prepare for travel.

Rabies vaccination
If your pet does not have a current rabies vaccination, this must be done first and you must wait 21 days before an AHC can be issued. We cannot issue an AHC before the rabies vaccination is valid. Pets must be 12 weeks old before they can have a rabies vaccination.
Tapeworm treatment
If you are travelling directly to Northern Ireland, Ireland, Finland, Malta or Norway with a dog, these dogs also need tapeworm treatment 24–120h before entering these countries. This needs to be entered on the AHC.
After the procedure
Please make sure that the person attending the appointment with the pet is the owner who is travelling as they need to sign an owner’s declaration at the appointment. Please check that they will be accompanying the pet there and back.
